Breakups can knock the wind out of us faster than a sucker punch to the heart, and can be one of the most devastating experiences any of us will ever have to go through.
When walking down the aisle to pledge lifelong love, Few of us imagine we may one day wind up on the wrong side of the 50% divorce divide.
Nor do we anticipate, when first in the blush of new love, that we will one day have to endure a crushing breakup. So, when we find ourselves captivated by a relentless grief and struggling to make sense of our post-relationship lives, we can easily be overwhelmed and feel isolated and hopeless.
Something is broken
and it’s more than just your heart.
Whether you’re the one who made the difficult decision to leave, or you’re in the mortifying position of having been left, the losses we face during a breakup are deep and complex.
The connection you once called home…
The shared rituals and routines that shaped your daily life…
And the beautiful future you were hoping for and counting on have now disintegrated.
Breakups can feel catastrophic and even the strongest of us may want to pull the covers over our heads and disconnect from everyone and everything for days on end.
And while deep down, most of us would prefer an amicable end, few of us are equipped to handle the tidal waves of big emotions that come with the end of a significant union…
The waves of unbearable grief or rage that feels like it’s eating you up from the inside, cavernous pits of sorrow and despair, and the often-surprising desire for revenge can so easily cause us to behave in destructive ways we may later regret. You might be wondering how you’re ever going to get to the other side of this.
Hurt people hurt people.
And feel desperate to just survive this experience, hoping with all your heart that time will somehow heal your broken heart and life.
Yet time doesn’t heal all wounds.
We do.
There’s a way to be powerfully proactive in restoring your heart to wholeness, and to do so much more than simply survive…
Many of us endured the nasty, contentious ways our own parents divorced . . . unconsciously uncoupling, and doing great harm to themselves, each other, and to us in the process.
And we know all too well the negative consequences of such an ugly end.
Wanting to learn from their mistakes, we are hungry to learn a new way that can spare ourselves, our children and others close to us the costs of such a primitive end.
Never before have we had as much self-awareness and emotional intelligence as our generation does.
And while we’re still clearly capable of behaving in primitive and destructive ways, there are also millions of us waking up to the possibility of finding a new way…
Millions of us willing to discover a more caring and evolved pathway to a conscious completion that leads us to growth, wisdom, peace of mind and light and happy hearts.
It’s possible to move through the loss of a romantic relationship in a way that is deeply kind, contained and caring, so that no one is left shattered or destroyed by the experience – yourself included.
That’s why award-winning licensed Marriage & Family Therapist and New York Times Bestselling Author of Conscious Uncoupling, Katherine Woodward Thomas, created Conscious Uncoupling as a 6-week online journey to guide anyone who’s struggling through a breakup, on the brink of a breakup or is still suffering from the unresolved grief from a past breakup, through a proven, step-by-step process for how to complete a romantic union – not just amicably, but consciously – in a way that leaves all involved healthy, whole, and free to love and be loved again moving forward.
We would all love to bring our relationships to conscious completion, where the love that was shared is both honored and protected rather than destroyed, and where everyone impacted by the separation is left enhanced, and not diminished, by the way the relationship ended.
The Conscious Uncoupling course will empower you – with or without the cooperation and support of your former partner, and no matter how challenging the circumstances are surrounding your breakup – to navigate the end of your relationship with grace, dignity and goodwill as well as profound levels of healing and heart-repair.
Plus . . .
As a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, Katherine Woodward Thomas has seen many people in excruciating pain as they grapple with the unspeakable grief of lost love. She’s witnessed families torn apart by the bitter nastiness that is all too characteristic of so many breakups. And she’s met with people whose hearts have been held captive with unresolved and prolonged grief from a past breakup – so much so that they were unwilling or unable to move past that trauma and open themselves up to love and be loved again.
Katherine’s 5-step Conscious Uncoupling process skyrocketed to international attention when a beautiful actress and her talented musician husband used the term to make public their intention to separate. Katherine’s work had influenced this couple to set an intention to break up in a holistically healthy way, and they were able to consciously and gracefully complete their marriage while keeping their family intact.
Because of their modeling, the Conscious Uncoupling process has now influenced millions of people around the globe, and is a pioneering voice towards more conscious and respectful breakups worldwide.
And… this trusted process will work whether you go through it alone, or navigate it with your former partner.
Consciously complete your relationship and liberate yourself to live a fuller, richer, and happier life on the other side of heartbreak.
In just 6-weeks and under the deeply supportive, expert guidance of world-renowned licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, Katherine Woodward Thomas, and her hand-picked team of Certified Conscious Uncoupling Coaches, you’ll discover how to:

Conscious Uncoupling: The 5 Steps to Living Happily Even After
During this course, Katherine Woodward Thomas will personally guide you through the revolutionary, 5-step Conscious Uncoupling process so that you too can consciously complete your relationship and avoid the antagonistic ways of breaking up that most of us have come to accept as the norm. These 5 steps give you the freedom to move forward and live a fuller, richer and happier life on the other side of a breakup or divorce.
Created in 2010 by psychotherapist and bestselling author Katherine Woodward Thomas, MA, MFT, the Conscious Uncoupling Process received unprecedented media attention when actress Gwyneth Paltrow and her former husband, Chris Martin, announced they were “consciously uncoupling” in an open letter Gwyneth posted to her website.
This media attention has left the world asking, “Is this type of breakup really possible?” And the good news is that not only is it possible, but Katherine’s proven approach has made this a reality in thousands of lives.
To date, hundreds of thousands of individuals and couples around the world from over 40 countries have used the Conscious Uncoupling process to heal, move on, create on-going peace and respect in their families, co-parent with grace and love, and at times, even learn how to transition to becoming great friends as well.
Often, just the act of registering for the course will begin to bring a sense of comfort and relief to you. You have taken positive action on your own behalf, and on behalf of your children if you have them.
The actual course includes 6 live 2-hour classrooms each Wednesday with Katherine, 6 live 60-minute coaching calls with Katherine on Mondays, as well as Heal Your Heart audio teachings sent straight to your inbox each day (between classrooms) to help you integrate the principles and practices of the week.
Of course, there is always more you can do if you have the time and are inspired to do so. You could read the Conscious Uncoupling book along with your program. If you register before May 20, you will receive a complimentary 30-minute Heal Your Heart coaching call with one of Katherine’s Certified Coaches. And if you register before May 31, you’ll receive the Reboot Your Romance with Life LIVE Workshop Series as a Bonus.
Finally, you can engage with our Conscious Uncoupling Coaches in our Online Learning Community by asking questions and receiving their support as you move through your course.
We provide this level of support so that if you’re experiencing acute suffering, you will feel our presence with you at all times. You are not alone on this healing journey.
Conscious Uncoupling: The 5 Steps to Living Happily Even After became a New York Times Bestseller in the fall of 2015. And while reading the book alone has been a tremendous help to thousands across the globe, it is no substitute for the highly transformative experience of the live course. The book includes much of what we will be covering in the Course yet the live course provides a high level of real-time, personalized support and guidance that is not possible to offer in a book. During the course, Katherine will also share new and emerging healing techniques not included in the book. Finally, a live course offers a like-minded community of people who can support your learning and who will stand with and for you and the new future you are creating, even after.
Conscious Uncoupling has grown and evolved in the 13 years since its creation! There is much that Katherine learned while writing her New York Times Bestseller, Conscious Uncoupling: 5 Steps to Living Happily Even After, and there are teachings that were not available in 2010 when the initial course was created; nuanced distinctions that are emerging in attachment theory, and new research on the biology of breakups and what happens in the body when our hearts are hurting.
Most importantly, though, are the latest findings on what truly heals a broken heart. Because of this, Katherine felt compelled to create the new online course to accommodate all that she has been discovering about healing from heartbreak.
The up-leveled course will also be delivered in a user-friendly format with daily doses of wisdom and guidance to help you integrate the material into the rhythms of your already busy life.
If you’ve taken the course in its old format, you are more than welcomed here as you will find new and refreshing perspectives and leading edge information that will support you to go even further in your capacity to complete old painful patterns and become liberated to create happier, healthier experiences of love moving forward.
While the highly publicized conscious uncoupling of Gwyneth and Chris demonstrated how wonderful it can be to do the program as a couple, the truth is that most people move through the process without the cooperation or support of their former partner — and the Conscious Uncoupling 5-Step process is designed for this!
It only takes one person to have a conscious uncoupling.
Even if you and your former partner are at odds, or if you are choosing to never again even see your former partner, there is an internal process you must undergo to be truly free in moving forward.
The course will support YOU to be free within yourself so that you are no longer carrying baggage related to this breakup moving forward and you will feel confident in your ability to create happier, healthier experiences of love in your future.
We do, however, offer special registration rates and instructions for those who wish to register with their former partner to go through the process together. (See registration section to find out more.)
It’s not uncommon for people to re-couple as a result of taking this course.
Even if you’re not sure what the future holds, the one thing you do know is this: that the old relationship that was unstable or where one or both of you was unhappy needs to end, and a new, happier dynamic must be born in its place.
If you are hoping to get back with your partner, this course will help you clearly see your part in what happened, give you the power to dissolve the emotional residue and resentment between you, and give you the tools to radically change the dynamic between you.
While many people do re-couple after the course, we don’t recommend taking the course with the sole intention of getting your partner back. You are here to heal, to understand your part in what happened so you can evolve and be free to do things differently from now on, and to do your best to move forward with a soft, clear and forgiving heart.
Many people who are on the fence and feel stuck in their current relationship take the course as a way of moving things forward in one direction or the other.
During these 6 weeks, you will learn where you have been unconsciously holding yourself back, feeling victimized and disempowered, and perhaps even repeating painful patterns from your childhood with your current partner. You will learn how to easily locate your power and radically shift how you’re showing up in your current relationship while taking this course.
If you are not sure whether to stay or to go, you are invited to take this course as a way to gain the clarity you need to make a wise decision, as well as the skills you’ll need to implement it.
You can register for the course at no risk to you! If the Conscious Uncoupling 6-Week Course is not the right fit for you, you will have up to 10 days after the start of the course to request a refund. There will be no refunds or cancellations after 11:59pm Pacific on June 30, 2023.
If you wish to withdraw from the program, please email us at Support@KatherineWoodwardThomas.com to let us know.

When I first realized my ten-year marriage was ending, I was terrified. As a young girl I had been the product of a nasty and terribly unconscious uncoupling and the one thing I knew for sure was this: I was not going to do that to our daughter! Yet, as our separation unfolded, I saw that I’d worried in vain. For not only was ours a kind uncoupling, but it was also filled with an unexpected spirit of generosity and goodwill, with gestures of friendship and mutual support woven throughout.
As much as I had yearned for a happy ending to my rather challenging childhood, in an odd twist of fate, I seemed to have stumbled upon a new kind of happy ending. A way to end a romantic union with dignity, goodness and honor, and where no one was left shamed or destroyed by the experience.
Once through it ourselves, I looked to see if I could decipher the rather unique way my former husband and I had transitioned out of our union. That inquiry led me to create the five steps of Conscious Uncoupling that could be engaged either by individuals going through a breakup, or by uncoupling couples to help them end their unions with dignity, generosity and grace.
As a believer in love, and an ardent supporter of long-term committed unions, I encourage couples to do everything they can to make it work before engaging a Conscious Uncoupling process.
Yet, when it becomes clear that a breakup is inevitable, I strongly suggest doing the program. Because in a world where more people divorce each year than buy new cars or eat grapefruit for breakfast, I think it’s time we learn how to do this better.
To your happiness in life and in love,
@2023 Conscious Uncoupling | Katherine Woodward Thomas
